Director of Professional Development (Espoo, Finland)

Through a blend of face to face and online solutions, New Nordic School will develop learning opportunities for all stakeholders that lead to deep and profound transformational learning and builds capacity for sustained improvement.

To drive our professional development strategy, we are now looking for a:


Reporting to the Chief Education Officer, you will be given the opportunity to build and shape our professional development strategy for the services we deliver.

Your main responsibilities include:

Implementation of the overall strategy for professional development which focuses on these areas:

  • Creating a professional development service which delivers excellence
  • Developing capacity from within and providing the necessary training & resources to deliver real impact
  • Using appropriate external providers when necessary to deliver on areas of need
  • Providing blended learning approaches that empower colleagues to take more responsibility for their own professional development
  • Sharing expertise through networking and collaboration
  • Innovating through engagement in classroom-based research and technology
  • Contributing to the overall educational development of New Nordic School by aligning with other educational functions such as curriculum, the continuum of learning, quality assurance, learning environment, and our smart technology platform
  • Working closely with our implementation team developing resources and delivering capacity-building professional development in schools
  • Designing the train-the-trainer concept and building, managing and developing a global network of trainers
  • Developing internal quality assurance systems to monitor and evaluate the impact of professional development
  • Managing the network of strategic partnerships
  • Connecting to research that the New Nordic School concept will build on


  • Strategic thinking and management skills, ability to work independently and deliver agreed outcomes
  • 5+ years of experience in education, professional development, HR development, coaching or equivalent
  • Extensive practical experience in designing and building professional workshops, including activities and materials
  • Proficiency in service design
  • Customer-centric mindset and ability to inspire others
  • As our company language is English, excellent written and verbal communication skills in English are a must, including the ability to craft messages for a variety of audiences and synthesize information
  • Comfortable presenting in front of a professional audience and facilitating workshops in English
  • Experience of using technology to support professional development
  • Strong belief in our mission, vision, values, and goals
  • Comfortable with a start-up mentality
  • Ability to travel when needed

Good to haves:

  • A university or equivalent advanced degree in education
  • Knowledge or experience of the Finnish education system
  • User experience in project management tools
  • Experience in a global or multi-regional role and demonstrable cultural awareness and respect for diversity
  • Experience with mindfulness
